How to Do Surya Mudra

Practicing Surya Mudra is easy and requires no equipment. Follow these steps:

1. Sit in a comfortable position such as Sukhasana (easy pose) or Vajrasana (thunderbolt pose). If sitting on the floor isn’t possible, you can sit on a chair with your back straight.


2. Relax your shoulders and keep your hands on your thighs or knees.


3. Bend your ring finger and press it gently with your thumb.


4. Keep the other three fingers (index, middle, and little finger) extended and straight.


5. Close your eyes and breathe deeply, focusing on your breath.



You can hold this mudra with both hands for:

10–15 minutes for a quick energy boost.

30–45 minutes daily (can be broken into 2–3 sessions) for deeper results like weight management.




When to Practice Surya Mudra

Best time: Morning hours, ideally during sunrise, when the energy of the sun is naturally supportive.

Before yoga practice: To prepare the body for asanas and pranayama.
